I also forget the smell of being outdoors. \u00a0I&#8217;m not sure if it&#8217;s all the sagebrush, but it just makes me breathe easier. \u00a0It&#8217;s hard to believe that I am still in Southern California when I&#8217;m traveling these mountains.<\/p>\n<p>Here I am on top of the tower after lowering an antenna down. \u00a0We switched it out for a different antenna and redid the receive system. \u00a0It seems that the repeater is working better. \u00a0I know the transmit power has less reflected (50W forward, 1\/2W reflected), and the receive is \u00a0a little more sensitive &#8212; it works better with a handheld.<\/p>\n<p>The next picture is a pullback of the building and shows the layout. \u00a0The tower is a couple of stories tall, and this day it was <em>bug free <\/em>up there.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-83\" title=\"dsc05069\" src=\"http:\/\/dan.minear.name\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/dsc05069-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"dsc05069\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dan.minear.name\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/dsc05069-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/dan.minear.name\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/dsc05069-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/dan.minear.name\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/dsc05069.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>That was <em>not<\/em> the case on the ground. I thought that it would be too cold, but I was wrong. \u00a0It was the busiest \u00a0I have ever seen on Santiago, both with the bugs and people. \u00a0I don&#8217;t know how many hikers, bikers, and joyriders there were. \u00a0When I was up on the tower, a motorcycle rider came up, got off his bike, and asked for Dan. \u00a0&#8220;What? Was that ITD?&#8221; \u00a0Yup, it sure was. \u00a0I have not seen\u00a0Eric Robitaille\u00a0for about 10 years! And now were talking on the top of Santiago. \u00a0Weird. \u00a0There was also a rescue going on to the north about 6 miles away on Skyline Road of a body in a car over the side. \u00a0While that was going on, a guy rolls up in a pickup to the emergency crew saying he just got bit by a rattlesnake. \u00a0There was a lot of coordination trying to figure out if they could helicopter the guy out. \u00a0I never found out how things ended. \u00a0When stuff happens, it happens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Well, I was up at 6:00am to meet Chris and Brian in Lake Forest at 7am. \u00a0We started up via Maple Springs Road at 8am, and it was a nice drive. \u00a0The road was in good condition, and I always forget how long\u00a0the road goes until the pavement ends.
